Latest Update From Rose Group

Burt Errington

Dec 16, 2022

A phone conversation between Beaches Action Group and Bryan Rose on Tuesday 13th of December. Below is a copy of the conversation involving questions and answers regarding the shops and Park.

Q1. What was the point of holding 2 meetings, one with BAG and another with the Alliance on 17/8/22 when both Craig (at the initial meeting between the community and Rose Group on 16/2/22) and again confirmed by Bryan at his first meeting with us on 31/3/22 promised that Burt would be the liaison between Rose Group and the residents in future dealings between both parties.

A1. Bryan said that he cannot talk to one person unless the whole of the community elected them – he apologised.

Q2. Three groups are being fed conflicting stories.  Misinformation and rumours are being spread about by those (PA members) who claim that Rose said the shops and park are being - developed as approved – early next year. How does he feel that because he lied about building the shops and park most support for a 5-star hotel has fallen by the wayside and that mostly the PA with the Alliance are trying to rally the community angrily and vigorously to stopping the hotel proposal before it even gets off the ground?

A2. He would not have expected anything else with 3 different views.  If residents wanted all (shops and park) then all would need to be combined as the hotel and jetty would have to pay for it, council has no money to pay for what we want.

(Burt told him that we do not want all – we only want a little corner shop and café that we were promised 5 years ago.)

Q3. What is being done in contravention to MOD7 at Stage3? Has MOD7 been changed?

A3. Nothing was done in contravention to MOD7. DA was approved for work. No plans to develop shops yet. Earthworks had to be done to set up area for shops.

Q4. Why are the shops and parks not being built NOW? (Quote directive from Heath Robertson (at page 5 of MOD7)    “Council had raised no objection to the sub-staging of Stage 3 to assist in developing the retail centre prior to the remainder of stage 3 which will be developed later under stage 3B”.

A4. Bryan said he was in conversation with council last week. No mention was made re shops. He has talks planned next week re hotel.

Q5. Can we ask why the residents have not been advised of a start time as per an email from Rose Customer Care to Burt Errington stating we would be informed 12 to 18 months after rehabilitation of works by Delta Energy  - which was completed in 2020? (end of 2021)

A5. Bryan said that he was not aware of what I was talking about.

(Burt asked if the community could be kept in the loop more often.)

(Bryan asked if Burt could forward a copy of the said email – agreed on.)

Q6. We had arranged with council planners to expedite the process of building and approval of the shops, why did he fail to go ahead with it?

(Burt read out a list of previous planning and development people from council that we have been in contact with and asked Bryan if he had any objections to Burt contacting any of them to try and get them to attend our next meeting.)

A6. Bryan agreed on my trying to email David Antcliff to see if he could attend this meeting.

Q7. *The majority of Beaches residents need to be shown progress on starting the building of shops and park before any support can be given to the proposed development of Stage 3B.  Does Rose Group intend building the shops and park at all after 5 years of promises with nothing happening, given our meetings and talks over the past 11 months.

A7. They (council and Rose Group) don’t want shop before hotel – it is in the wrong place to fit in with plan.

(Burt reiterated that if the shops were included in the hotel and jetty plans we would not see our shop for another 10 years and that would make it 15 years of waiting for what we all had purchased into, all we want is a simple shop and park now.)

Q8. On Rose Groups website it states: they listen to their buyers and give them what they need. Have we not made it clear to Rose Corp that we need the shops and park now?

A8. Bryan said “yes, but if people get the shop they won’t go for hotel”.

(Burt replied, the residents say they just need a corner store with a café and a park (the nearest park is 2 ½ klms away) as promised 5 years ago then we should have most onside – it’s only the PA creating all this crap – if they had their way, we would be sent packing.)

Q9. How does he feel that the whole community is disgusted in him because of his lack of providing for and breaking his promise about building our shops?

A9. No answer was forthcoming.

We said our pleasantries and finished the conversation.
