32nd Association Committee Meeting 24/03/2024

Present;
Shayne and Rosemary Mclennan,  Lindsay and Kathleen Hensby, Tony and Gladys Rapps, Joe and Christine Bayles,  Tank and Brenda Shuurman, Jim and Marlene Hankey, Gordon and Debbie Spears, Warren Meers,  Don Lorimer.  Gai Marsh departed earlier.

After a lengthy pros and cons discussion about our next reunion, we made the decision that Geelong, Victoria, will be the reunion in approximately March 2026. The decision also was made about changing the days from weekends to mid week Monday to Friday. The exact dates will not be known for about another 12 months yet, so we can work out school holidays and Easter.

Coffs Harbour has been slowly getting harder and harder to book, so the decision to change was almost made for us. Geelong has an airport called Avalon for those wishing to fly into. Also the Ferry terminal from Tasmania arrives in Geelong.

I hope to do a reccy down to the Geelong area by the end of this year and am considering getting there by train from Sydney to Melbourne then Geelong, with a couple of days in between each stop. I will let you know when and maybe some of you guys might like to come along. I have already contacted Dennis Abbey who lives in Geelong to help the setup of this reunion.

The state of our bank account is as follows.
Prior to reunion  $890.46
Cost of reunion  $344.20 - BBQ EVENT, RAFFLE
Balance               $546.26
Deposit                $250.00 - RAFFLE
New Balance      $796.26

There is an app that is available for all veterans and serving members called APOD. this app gives veterans access to cheap items such as fuel, food and a whole host of other things. I have noticed that some of you are already using this app.

DVA white card holders maybe entitled to gold card at age 70. As per usual it all depends on where you may have served. It only entitles you to the benefits not the actual pension itself, but it is worth investigating with your advocate.

It was good to catch up with those who attended our Reunion although it was sad to see such a small number in attendance. I would like to thank those who appologised for not being able to attend due to illness or personal reasons.

I would like to thank Shayne for his organisation skills, arranging our reunion site and BBQ.

I would also like to thank the Hankeys for supplying some fresh mud crabs, which were delicious and did not last very long.

And a thank you to Tank who was our chef at the BBQ.

It was also nice to see Gai Marsh, Swampy's wife, attend our reunion as well.

Everyone had a great time catching up on old times and new, we did have to scratch our heads a few times trying to remember some names and who did what in the past, but we laughed anyway.

We all sang Happy Birthday as we were all turning 70 this year and Don being the eldest at the reunion got to blow out the candle.

Hope to see you all again next time.

Lindsay.

A message from Russ Cronin to let everyone know there is a JR reunion in Perth Next year and you can find the information on the Tingira Site.
